Looking at all the clips' information, I notice that iMovie is reading files whose format is clearly stated as HD (1-1-1). In either of these situations, iMovie is fully reading the clips.

To avoid the problem, I am opening the video clips in QuickTime and exporting them either with H.264 720p or with HEVC 1080p (the original clips are 1080p).

I have been able to somehow circumvent the problem, but still some questions linger. It is related specifically to video "length". So it is not related to flashes or other things. Something that I might not have explained clearly is that this issue is coming up with ALL of these videos that last more than 25 seconds. Thanks again for your time and suggestions!! Could it be that the iMovie has "lost" compatibility with some of my old clips? But if that's the problem, why is iMovie able to process and render these old clips when they are 25 seconds or less? Even though I have used different cameras and other iMovie versions, I have been able (in the past) to work with clips that I filmed in 20. I have edited videos with iMovie for many years. mov file taken in jan 2016 with unknown camera H.264 (1-1-1) linear PCM 16-bit little-endian signed integer 48000 Hz res: 1920x1080 16:9 FPS 23,98 (24FPS) rate 35.24 Mbit/s size 2880x1620 (scaled 1.50x) also plays well on Quick Time.

See below what I found.ĭifferences between clips with problems and clips without problems: I checked the clips' details and checked on other things as well.

I deleted the preferences and also tried with a new project, and the problem remains. The cut transition ( ) has no duration.Rich, thanks so much for your suggestions! The available durations are determined by the lengths of the clips on either side of the transition, up to a maximum of 2 seconds. To change how long the transition lasts, tap the duration shown, then tap another duration. The icon changes to indicate the type of transition you selected. If this option isn’t available, it means the clips on either side of the transition aren’t long enough to create a cross-dissolve.
